The mission

Felix Kitchen&Bar is more than just a restaurant: it is a full-fledged contemporary art space. It is traditional, yet modern, minimalistic yet bohemian. It has urban roots, but rises above all the street noise.

Our goal is to revitalize one of the iconic buildings of Budapest. After 100 years of transformation, together with the Ybl Creative House Buda we are opening a new chapter in the life of the Ybl Kiosk building. This chapter will be about the passion for high end gastronomy, extraordinary cocktails and quality ingredients.

Fortune, harmony, liberty are all part of the name, and Felix is ever-present in the building.

The building

Felix Kitchen & Bar is located in the building which used to house the Várkert Kiosk, which was designed by Miklós Ybl, the most influential Hungarian architect of the 19th century. Behind its breathtaking neo renaissance facade the building had an industrial function, as it supplied the royal palace with filtered drinking water.

When that technology became outdated the building began to take on new roles and was home to card clubs, dance rehearsals, cafés and the Várkert Casino. It was abandoned for almost a decade until it was finally fully renovated and took on a new mission in May 2018 as the Ybl Buda Creative House, with the goal to showcase high quality Hungarian and Asian contemporary art. The FELIX Kitchen & Bar, named after Miklós Ybl’s only son, Felix, evokes the legendary past in our contemporary times, to be the ideal gastronomical partner in this new endeavor.

The kitchen

We make no compromises when it comes to quality, be that breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. This is reflected in all the classic favorites and exotic ingredients found on the Felix Kitchen&Bar menu.

Dishes are rooted in Hungarian tradition and follow international trends with an Asian twist in every meal of the day.

The exclusive ingredients are provided by vendors representing the highest quality standards, shipping their products from local farms but also from Parisian, Japanese and Australian producers. Our exceptional food selection is complemented by an outstanding bar offering more than 400 different liquors and almost 300 types of wine.

The team

Felix’s gastronomical mission is headed by Árpád Kovács, who has already shown his creative approach and passion for food at Pierrot, Vár: a Speiz and La Perle Noire. András Berényi plays an important role in providing a creative concept and András Ódor is in charge of our extraordinary bar and cocktails.
